The Pharaoh’s Ancient Empire

About This Trip

On this adventure, you’ll get on your hands and knees as you climb through the cavernous mazes inside the Great Pyramid to reach the pharaoh's tomb. You’ll ride a camel on the Giza plateau and a donkey past the step pyramid. As if that’s not already cool enough, you’ll board a 5-star cruise that will take you from temple to temple down the Nile River as your local guide, an egyptologist, explains what the hieroglyphs and carvings mean. You’ll fly over the Valley of the Kings in a hot air balloon, and when you come back down to earth you’ll actually go inside the colorful tombs of King Tut and Ramses IV.

Then we’ll take you to the Red Sea where you’ll see some of the most exotic fish in the world as you snorkel, scuba dive, and swim with dolphins. To top it off, in classic Travel Young fashion, we will grab a dune buggy and head out to an oasis in the Sahara desert to camp under the brightest stars you’ll find in the world. You’re gonna leave Egypt in a permanent state of adrenaline, mystery, and awe.

Today we're going to fly to Aswan, where we will be embarking on our 5-star Nile River. Archaeologists literally sawed the temple apart and rebuilt it exactly how it was just a few hundred feet away on a nearby island.

Accommodations: 5-Star Nile River Cruise

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

Day 4 - Abu Simbel & Temples Of the Nile

Abu Simbel is an ancient Egyptian masterpiece. Ramses II carved this temple into the side of a mountain next to the Nile River to warn all foreign visitors that they have now arrived into the powerful Egyptian Empire. Once we return to the cruise ship, it’s smooth sailing down the river bouncing from temple to temple with your Egyptologist as your guide.

Accommodations: 5-Star Nile River Cruise

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

Day 5 - The Valley Of The Kings

Once the Pharaohs realized that building a pyramid was like building a beacon for grave robbers, they decided that they would build their graves underground in secret. The Valley of the Kings, is home to 62 of these underground tombs. We’ll go inside some of these underground tombs and see the burial places of pharaohs such as King Tut and Ramses IV. We’ll also explore the palace of Queen Hatshepsut, the only Pharaoh Queen that ruled Egypt.

Accommodations: 5-Star Nile River Cruise

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

Day 5: Optional Excursion - Hot Air Balloon

If you’ve never been on a hot air balloon ride before, then there’s no better time to start than over the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. As soon as the sun comes up over the Valley, we’ll be peacefully floating up above the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, the Nile River, and the town of Luxor.

Day 6 - The Karnak & Luxor Temples

This is the grand finale of temples. At one point, the Pharaohs decided that it’d be more efficient to simply build on top of the previous Pharoah's work, so instead of starting a brand new temple they made one giant one called the Karnak Temple. Inside this temple is a room with 134 massive stone pillars, which is still the largest room of any religious building in the world. After exploring these temples we’re going to drive to Hurghada, to our all-inclusive resort on the Red Sea.

Accommodations: 4-star all-inclusive resort in Hurghada

Breakfast included.

Day 7 - Adventures at the Red Sea

You have several options for how you want to spend your time in Hurghada. You’re staying at an all-inclusive resort after all, so you could just hang out at the resort and enjoy a life of luxury, or you could go snorkeling, ATV riding, parasailing, windsurfing, or any number of optional excursions. These excursions aren’t included because they all cost different amounts of money, but what we recommend is scuba diving, because the Red Sea has arguably the best scuba diving in the entire world.

4-star all-inclusive resort in Hurghada

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

Optional Excursion - Scuba Diving

Global warming has absolutely devastated the largest coral reefs in the world, but the Red Sea is still alive and thriving and well known as the best scuba diving in the world. The underwater city of colors is untouched and it’s home to some of the world's most rare fish. If you’re certified, great, you can dive all on your own. If you’re not certified, then you can still explore the reefs and shipwrecks with a guide who will train you.

Day 8 - CAIRO, The Museum, & Life As A Local

Today, we’ll drive back to Cairo just in time to have lunch near Khan El Khalili, Cairo’s oldest bazaar, where you’ll find papyrus paintings, perfumes, and other gift stores from some of Cairo’s oldest shops. Then we’ll go to the brand new Cairo Museum where you’ll find actual mummies and artifacts from King Tut’s tomb. To finish off this great trip, we’re going to have a night out on the town as a farewell celebration, playing backgammon at a shisha bar, eating authentic cuisine, and riding a Felucca down the Nile River.

Accommodations: Swiss Inn Nile Hotel or similar.

Breakfast and dinner included.

We’ll sandboard down sand dunes and scramble the small mountain of Mudawara for a spectacular view of the desert safari. Fayoum is also home to an ancient whale graveyard named Wadi El-Hitan, aka Whale Valley, where the largest and best preserved ancient whale fossils in the world are, which helped explain to scientists the evolution of whales and other marine life. In the morning we’ll zip around Lake Rayan on a boat ride before heading out on two dune safaris bringing us upon ancient ruins, desolate desert, and the city of Fayoum.
